Great review! One more suggestion - I heard the Canon SD800is is a good one. Wide angle lens and image stabilization. (I also heard about a Panasonic Lumix but can't seem to find the model number.)
Also, one camera tip I learned from a photography student and activerain.com is to take a shot with the flash, and one without. Most time you really don't need a flash. It really works!
Thanks for the review!

Hi Ariane!

I found it!
Cannon SD870is has 28mm wide angle lens. It came out this fall, and the nice part is the 3" LCD in back. Runs about $300 online.

There is a wide angle converter you can put on the end to widen it even more. a .45 costs about $58. I think it will give you more like 18-22mm

Thanks to Stuart who helped me out at Russ' Camera in Santa Barbara.
